I didn’t come up with that as a catchphrase it’s just there was so many good albums out there from last year, that 20 or 10 just wouldn’t be enough. This year our winners were Salem with their dark, forward thinking ‘witch house’ album King Night. I asked Paul Hanford our HQ music wizz to describe Salem’s new album in a few words: ‘Voodoo electronics, sustained mood, the ambience of early Sabbath relocated to the deepest, darkest american backwaters. Salem fashion an intensity and beauty out of the simplest forms making them the most intriguing act of the year.’
We’re also really sorry Rihanna didn’t make it into the list, although Rude Boy was the track of the year, the album came out in 2009. We still love you.
